If you have been reading my blog for a while then you probably know that I joined the Skyscanner Bloscars Travel Award 2014 competition (obviously hosted by Skyscanner). I came in second place for the national competition, so I am the first runner up for the Indonesia Skyscanner Bloscars Travel Award 2014. Isn’t that super awesome? I never thought that I would be able to get a place in the top 10. Anyway so this recognition really made my day. Once again, I would like to thank you for all your support and votes for DiscoverYourIndonesia.com.
Skyscanner awarded me with a certificate (the very first certificate ever in blogging for me!) and a free trip to Singapore for three days two nights (20-22 March 2014) together with the other three Indonesian bloggers winners (Ariev, Fahmi and Mbak Indri). I was so excited because we were going to the APAC Skyscanner Bloscars Travel Award 2014 gathering. I got the chance to meet other travel bloggers from Asia Pacific; the countries that participated were Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Philippines and Australia.
I arrived early with Fahmi in Singapore, which gave us time to explore The city a little bit. Though it become a day set aside to satisfy Fahmi’s taste buds, it was still an interesting day. He was totally like a pregnant woman (sorry Fahmi haha..). He wanted to eat certain food/drinks here and there. Aside from that we also managed to enjoy a little bit of Bugis street, visit the Sultan Mosque and stroll around Arab street. Afterwards I headed to Grand Mercure Roxy Singapore to chill and rest (I’ll write an article about East Coast of Singapore later on).
The next day, March 21, was the day that I had been waiting for. Together with Sy from Singapore, Mot and his wife from Thailand and Brooke from Australia we gathered in the Grand Mercure lobby and were picked up by Tika and Dave from Skyscanner. We headed to the Singapore flyers, the meeting point with the other travel bloggers who stayed at other hotels from the Accor group.
The city tour that day started from Singapore flyer. We all gathered in one big Funvee double decker bus for a drive around the city. I picked a seat on the second floor for a better view, even in open bus the audio guide still remained clear. The tour continued and we wandered around Esplanade, Merlion and then caught a river cruise to Clarke Quay to have a fancy lunch at the Novotel. I loved the river cruise, it is always nice to see a city from a different perspective, right? I bet the river cruise at night would be a great experience too. Next time I’ll do that!
After lunch and refreshing ourselves in our hotels, we were picked up and taken to the SkyScanner office for a tour, award ceremony and dinner. Honestly speaking, I got some kind of weird dejavu kind of feeling (in a good way) when I visited the SkyScanner Office. It more or less reminded me of my 9-5 office job that I left one year ago. Mbak Indri, one of the Indonesian travel bloggers, kept on teasing me by saying: I guess this reminds you of your office?, over and over again. She succeed in making me smile and smitten many times. Btw, cool thing about Skyscanner office, besides having an xbox and pingpong table is that all the meeting rooms have name and decorated with various travel destination all over Asia Pasific. I remember seeing Bagan-Myanmar meeting room and simply loved it!
At the end of Skyscanner office tour, we all gathered in the Borobudur-Indonesia room. Andy Sleigh, General Manager of Skyscanner APAC did a short speech which instantly melted my heart. He said he genuinely appreciates what travel bloggers do and the part they play in the tourism industry by sharing their journeys and first-hand experience. He also mentioned one of my favourite travel quotes, I’ll tell you at the end. After the speech they finally called us up and give a plaque to all the winners. Here I finally got to meet directly with all the first place winners from each countries (except Indonesia).
We went to Group Therapy, which was located just 15-20 minutes away from Skyscanner office, for the celebration dinner. Group Therapy is a small warm restaurant located on the 2nd floor with a good ambiance and tasty food. Oh wait, were the Skyscanner people and us (bloggers) responsible for the good ambiance? Haha.. We also gathered with some people from Accorhotels group and the Singapore tourism board. Anyways, the highlight of that night was “selfie”. Bloscars is totally like the Oscars! We had so much fun and too many selfies. This selection of pictures is the best way to describe how crazy our selfie night was!
Omg, sorry for this, it’s been such a long post! I just got overwhelmed with happiness about what this blog has achieved and the APAC blogger gathering that was hosted by Skyscanner. I’ll write more about my Singapore trip soon 🙂
Allow me to write few more sentence. Yes?
Oh the dear Mister that read this proverb; “The world is a book, and those who don’t travel only read one page.” – too bad you didn’t join us at the dinner and our selfie madness 😉
